The International Association of Democratic Lawyers (IADL), recalling the Charter of the United Nations adopted in the aftermath of two brutal world wars, which declared as one of its paramount objectives, “to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war which twice in our lifetime has brought untold sorrow to mankind… “, condemns the the threats by the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, to “annihilate” the Islamic Republic of Iran and the people of Iran, during his address to the 81st annual session of the United Nations General Assembly on 24 September 2026.
The attempt to terrorise Iran by such threats is a violation of Article 2 (4) of the Charter of the United Nations, which “prohibits the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity and political independence of any state”. These threats, unprecedented in diplomatic history and in the annals of the United Nations, are a new low in international relations in the modern era, recalling the breakdown of the international legal order in the period preceding the Second World War.
The use of the following words:
” …or do I annihilate the Islamic Republic of Iran quickly and drive them into hell with no chance of survival and no hope of future greatness or generations ….”
is an unmistakable threat by the President of the United States and his supporters to destroy and obliterate the Islamic Republic of Iran and the people of Iran using nuclear weapons, a crime Against peace, a violation of international law and the Nuremberg Code, which was itself initially drafted with the participation of the United States, among others. We emphasise that such a threat, occurring not long after a Memorandum of Understanding was signed and welcomed by peoples of the world before being violated almost immediately by the United States, “to declare the immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon,” constitutes evidence of planning and plotting a war of aggression, a high crime against peace.
Therefore, it is urgent to alert all people and governments to this unprecedented threat to annihilate a nation through the use of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction, which constitutes a clear and present danger of nuclear war, with the potential for mutually assured self-destruction, against the interests of all of humanity.
The President of the United States of America is bound by the Constitution of the United States and US statutory law to abide by all treaties and conventions signed and authenticated by the United States government, including the Charter of the United Nations. The serial acts of aggression committed by the United States against the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the threats to destroy the Iranian people and civilisation, are violations of the Constitution of the United States and US statutory law, for which the President of the United States is accountable to the people of the United States, as well as violations of international law. This is also a direct threat to commit genocide issued from the platform of the United Nations, in violation of the Genocide Convention.
The President of the United States of America continues to threaten the Islamic Republic of Iran, despite the, majority of the citizens of the United States of America opposing the serial attacks of aggression against Iran and the use of nuclear weapons.
We call upon all governments of the world, the people of the United States, and on institutions and organisations worldwide, to publicly condemn these reckless acts of war and threats of the use of nuclear weapons by the President of the United States against the Islamic Republic of Iran and its people, which have the potential of unleashing a global holocaust and destruction of the planet through such a threatened nuclear war.
It must never be forgotten that the government of the United States is the only government in history to have resorted to the use of nuclear weapons, hence the urgency to oppose these threats and aggression today in order to effectively deter and prevent such threats from being actualized.
