Tribute to Monique and Roland Weyl
The International Review of Contemporary Law
Both Monique and Roland Weyl used their role as lawyers, communists and writers to defend peoples‘ rights and the rule of law.
Roland reportedly initiated and shepherded the International Review of Contemporary Law.
It is our hope that the documents Roland offered to the IADL archive will make it possible to reconstruct the issues with which he dealt beyond the 2000 issue of the IADL Review which is posted on the IADL website.
The issue of 2002 is timely today as it concerns, „The military intervention in Afghanistan.“
The year 2010 started a renewal of the Review with a meeting of the future members of the editorial board in a typical Parisian bistro near the Canal Saint- Martin called “Chez Prune.”
Roland was the French actor in this group and proposed the theme, “The Stockholm Appeal.“ The issue was published on the IADL website in December 2013.
Roland wrote a text on “L´arme nucléaire erst criminelle.“ And Adda Bekkouche contributed an article titled, “Non à la guerre oui au bonheur. 60 ans après l´appel de Stockholm,” a book by Monique Picard-Weyl, published posthumously.
In June 2016, Roland initiated the issue, „70 Years of the UN Charter“ and he asked his friends and colleagues to contribute. Roland himself submitted, “La Charte des Nations Unies, fondament du droit international“ and Robert Charvin wrote, “Pour la valorisation et la popularisation de la Charte des Nations Unies, Contournement, violations et ignorance de la Charte des Nations Unies“ et Géraud de Geouffre de la Pradelle on „La Palestine et la Charte des Nations Unies.“
And the next issue, „75 Years of the UN Charter“ will consequently be dedicated to Monique and Roland Weyl and their most valuable work in the field of international law.
