Reports of indiscriminate bombing on civilians if true would violate the core principles of humanitarian law.
As in Tunisia, Egypt and other Arab countries the youth are prominently in the lead in rising up against regimes that are ignoring civil liberties and which have been subservient to Western interests. Democratic lawyers, jurists and judges, are among the forefront of this revolution, aimed at achieving an effective rule of law based on the guarantee of individual and collective rights.
IADL and ELDH call for
- an immediate end to support of Gaddafi’s regime and demand that collusion with this regime be exposed,
- the immediate end to the bloodshed of the Libyan people stressing that the Libyan regime may be guilty of crimes against humanity, which may be brought before the International Criminal Court.
At the same time they express their total opposition to any foreign military intervention in this area including a no-fly zone.
