Since the beginning of August 2008 eleven members of the indigenous movements have been assassinated in Colombia, following threats made by paramilitary right-wing groups. Many others are reported to have been injured by the police and the military when a demonstration of ten thousand indigenous marchers was attacked on October 14.

The International Commission for Labor Rights, ICLR, is a non-profit organization that is based in New York, coordinating the pro bono work of a global network of lawyers committed to advancing workers' rights through legal research, advocacy, cross-border collaboration, and the cutting-edge use of international and domestic legal mechanisms. On occasion, ICLR's legal network also responds to urgent appeals for independent reporting on gross labor rights violations.

Points of view of IADL related to the various international criminal courts.

Everywhere in the world lawyers and independent judges are more and more under threat. Death squads in the Philippines killed several lawyers, independent judges in Pakistan are under attack, in Turkey lawyers are criminalised etc.

Throughout its history IADL has organised campaigns and activities in defence of the rights of the Palestinian people. IADL opposed aggression by Israel against its neighbours and promoted the respect for international law in the area.

In the view of IADL the present crisis is not only a financial one. Its deep roots lie in the present economic system, characterized by growing inequalities among rich and poor. Another important negative factor is the neoliberal theory and practice, for sake of which most States destroyed every protection against the free circulation of capital and the invention of new and sophisticated financial instruments totally disconnected from the real production of goods and services.
